Eastern Black Sea Regional Coordination Meeting on Combating Child Labour

Durak Hazelnuts Sustainability Team participated in the information seminar on combating child labor held at Ordu Ramada Hotel for the project carried out in partnership with ILO Turkey Office and CABİSCO.

It started with the opening speeches made by ILO Turkey Office Senior Project Coordinator Ayşegül Özbek Kansu and Labor Expert Mustafa Bozkurt and continued with the project presentation made by Ayşegül Özbek Kansu. Then, ILO Turkey Office Consultant and former General Director of Labor Nurcan Önder made a presentation titled “New Practices in the Supply Chain and ILO”. The presentation provided a history of practices related to supply chains, basic international documents on responsible business management, examples of practices from European countries, the scope of the EU Corporate Sustainability and Duty of Care Directive, current developments on forced labor and comprehensive information on ILO documents.

Following the presentation, stakeholders shared their questions and suggestions in the Q&A section. These included increasing public-private partnerships, difficulties in traceability in supply chains, education and regulatory initiatives, sectors other than hazelnuts, the importance of a multi-dimensional approach, effective use of incentive contracts, and effective coordination with commodity exchanges and chambers of agriculture.

In the closing speeches, the main results of the meeting were summarized and attention was drawn to the updated issues of the Presidential Seasonal Agricultural Workers Circular No. 2024/5.
