Practices to be Carried Out in Hazelnut Orchards in October

October is a crucial period when post-harvest maintenance begins and hazelnut orchards are prepared for the upcoming production season.

At Durak Hazelnuts, we advise our growers to prioritize pruning, the removal of basal shoots, soil analysis, nutrition planning, pest control, and regular orchard monitoring.
Pruning operations should commence with due regard for leaf fall and weather conditions; dead, broken, and diseased branches must be removed from the orchard. Unnecessary basal shoots within the hazelnut clumps should be cleared to improve light penetration and air circulation; excessive pruning must be avoided, and care should be taken to ensure that cutting tools are kept clean.
Before fertilizing, representative soil samples should be collected from the orchard, and the fertilization and nutrition plan should be formulated based on the analysis results. The timing and quantity of fertilizer and lime applications should be determined according to the orchard's specific needs and technical recommendations.
Monitoring for pests—particularly the brown marmorated stink bug and the hazelnut gall mite—must continue, and all observations and treatments carried out in the orchard should be regularly recorded.
At Durak Hazelnuts, we believe in the importance of executing the right practices at the right time to ensure healthy orchards and sustainable hazelnut production.
